Eric Hanson has an extensive history in visual effects for feature film in Los Angeles, working for the original Digital Domain, Sony Imageworks, Dream Quest Images, Walt Disney Feature Animation, and others during the wide expansion of digital techniques in the field. With a background in architectural design, Eric recognized that early digital effects were centered solely on creating creatures and effects, and sought to expand the use of digital sets and environments, leading several seminal efforts in that area, including The Fifth Element, Cast Away, and The Day After Tomorrow. Building on this experience, he then expanded his innovative techniques toward comprehensive 360 environmental capture to apply to immersive media projects in Fulldome and VR, leading to the present practice of full volumetric reconstruction for roomscale 6DOF VR.
